As a seasoned interviewer and journalist I would think that she would know better, and I'm sure she does. Her intent was clear; it just so happens that Mr. Mackie was able to disarm the power of her comment with his good manners and intelligence. It is sad that some people in this country are comfortable with black men being in one of two categories, either that of the threatening thug or gay. It's sad that Meredith had to go “there”.
