Last night American Idol featured a special 2-hour charity performance event from American Idol season 9. It was also the latest American Idol elimination. The episode only included some of the featured performers due to the problems with the Volcano in Iceland and delayed flights across Europe. Among the Idol Gives back performers were Carrie Underwood, Jeff Beck, Black Eyed Peas and Joss Stone. The special was hosted by Queen Latifah and Elton John.

The 2+ hour charity special/Idol result show drew a 5.7 rating/16 among adults 18-49 and 18.4 million viewers overall. That is 16% down in the demo from the most recent Idol Gives Back in 2008 but up 3% in total viewers. (Fox expects the numbers to rise in the final Nielsens).
This week the AI contestants had been coached and mentored by the amazingly talented Alicia Keys. Two of the top performances came from Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze, so it wouldn’t be either of them going home.
