QUEEN LATIFAH: GET OFF TWITTER AND GET A LIFE!

Queen Latifah started off wrong by doing an interview with “Upscale Magazine” — I mean really? Who reads that anymore?

I spotted Queen Latifah featured on the cover of Upscale Magazine’s May/June Issue over at my girl Necole Bitchie’s website.  And at first I thought it was a cute interview…and then the more i read into it, the more annoyed I got so I had to do my own post….

Upscale: You’ve been asked so much about your sexuality. Wouldn’t it be easier at this point to just speak on it-once-and be done with it?

Queen: I don’t have to explain anything. I don’t have to confirm anything. Look, I need my time. I need my life.

Carlton’s Perspective: Okay, I can get with her on that answer. She doesn’t have to confirm her sexuality to anyone.  But if it’s no big deal to you then why not just say it? You need your life – that’s understood, but it is unrealistic as a famous – MAINSTREAM famous person to have a private life – that’s just a fact in today’s celebrity life.  The world is not asking you to show us a sex tape!  ”Who are you dating nowadays” is a legitimate question in today’s media…especially if you’re putting out romantic comedies…The backlash of your ‘rules’ on not sharing your private life has already backfired -have you seen your box office receipts??? This day and age, just being an actress is not enough, and hiding behind the veil of “privacy” won’t get you too far – especially when there is a whole generation of gays and women that look to people for strength and courage to live their own lives openly.  We all don’t have the luxury of hiding our love affairs off the coast of some fancy island…

Upscale: But isn’t that a part of being a celebrity, letting people into your personal life?

Queen: You know, I was looking at something the other day. A magazine with Jennifer Aniston on the cover. That’s a strong woman right there. All of these people in her business-who is she dating? Angie this. Brad that. They come up with so much stuff. That’s a tough situation to be in. My situation is small compared to that. But still, I don’t feel like I need to explain. I’m the one living it. You write about it. You go ahead and speculate. I’ll just live it.

Carlton Jordan Perspective:  Yes, people do specualte when the truth is never clarified!  Jennifer Aniston talks to every magazine in the world about her relationships, and have you seen her on the red carpet with freakin’ Gerald Butler’s fingers up her crotch?!!! I mean really Queen – the Jennifer Aniston defense is quite silly.   Plus, no one speculates about Lance Bass anymore, or Rosie O’Donnel, or Wanda Sykes, because it’s clear what their sexuality is now, and we’ve moved in.  You want to play the game of keeping people guessing, than things will be made about you.  If you are indeed a lesbian, bi or whatever – imagine how many young men and women you can help live their lives openly and not in secret!!

So what I am saying to Queen is, I believe your perspective is all wrong – -

Upscale: Do you feel like you’re understood by the people closest to you?

Queen: Absolutely. I don’t feel like I need to explain things to a perfect stranger. The people who matter know. And they love me for Dana. I don’t have to tell Joe Blow. Joe, you worry about who YOU sleeping with.

Carlton Perspective: Wow, so your fans are Joe Blow now, and you don’t give a fugg about them?  Watch more of your movies bomb.

She also explained why she is wary of social networks:

Queen: When I meet someone I want to enjoy the moment of connecting with them. If they’re scrambling to get a picture to post on twitter, they’re losing the memory by missing the moment. Real life and social networking are not the same. I’m in a hotel room right now looking out at Central Park. The people out there are living life, playing soccer. Do I want to kick the ball? Or take a picture of it? I want to kick it

Carlton Jordan Perspective: You can kick the ball AND take the picture…and share with your friends and family and fans the moment – thats what social networking is about!  By your logic no one should take pictures ever, and just live life’s moments, with no ability to share some of your most precious moments with all of your friends and famiy AND FANS who arent there with you.

This is the disconnect I have with Latifah – - it seems she so scared her private life might get out, she shuns everything that could possibly expose people to who she may be outside of a movie star…she has no personality outside of Hollywood and I think she suffers for that at the box office.

I could care less if you’re gay or not – but don’t try and project your own insecurities about your perceived sexuality on those asking, as if you’re the first person to ever be asked that question.  Normal everyday people are asked about their sexuality all the time  - why are you an exception to the rule?   And in this day and age where men and women have to live on the closet, isn’t it a disservice to continue to live by “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

Answer the question damn it so I can have some content on my BLOG!  LOL!
