BET’s Skye Townsend To Join 90′s R&B Musical Film!

I have some exciting news about a film Carlton Jordan has written and is producing!!

This film could be breakout roles for Skye Townsend, Kendall Amyre Ferguson, and a number of Hollywood’s Black teens. Skye, star of BET’s ’8 Days A Week’ and daughter of Actor/Director Robert Townsend, is in talks to star in a new feature film, ‘Get The Pearls’ – - a teen R&B musical based in 1990!

Townsend, an actress, singer and poet, has built a following of  nearly 2.5 million Youtube viewers with her sketch comedy, music and spot-on Beyonce impersonations. The character she’s in talks to portray is Sonya , a talented member of an all female hip-hop group  Diamondz ‘N Da Ruff (a la Salt ‘N Pepa).

Also in talks is newcomer, Kendall Amyre Ferguson, whose debut as ‘Agnes Peabody’ in the HUB series ‘Clue’ catapulted her up the list of the next generation of young talent. Ferguson, who just signed to Atlantic Records, is set to play mean girl ‘Candy’ – the leader of a rival ‘bougie’ girl group The Pearls.

The project is written by former E! News Producer turned entertainment blogger, Carlton Jordan. Jordan, who’s also worked for The ‘Eve’ Show, MTV, VH1, and numerous reality shows, is currently casting more of young Hollywood for the project. He states, “This film will be filled with the next generation of teen stars and musicians, along with cameos from your favorite 90’s era legends! I am very much in love with the idea that this project aims to create a group of black teen queens and heartthrobs, maybe our very own ‘Breakfast Club’!”

‘Pearls’ pays homage to girl groups from the 90′s, and to films from that period such as ‘School Daze’, ‘House Party’, and ‘Poetic Justice’.  Of course with a splash of more current films like ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Dreamgirls’.

Speaking of girl groups from the 90′s, who were your favorite? I’d have to SWV HANDS DOWN!!!
