This show will probably make any ‘Housewives’ show look like The Cosby Show.
According to S&A, Oxygen Media has ordered what they’re describing as a “daring” (according to their press release) new 1-hour special titled All My Babies’ Mamas, which will premiere next spring. The project will center on the complicated lives of one man, his many women, and their many children. Further… the series which comes from creative duo Liz Gateley and Tony DiSanto of DiGa Vision…
… will capture the highs and lows of this extreme ‘blended family’ that is anything but ordinary, while also showing the drama and the passion behind life’s most unexpected situations.
In addition, Cori Abraham, Senior Vice President of Development at Oxygen Media, says:
“‘All My Babies’ Mamas’ will be filled with outrageous and authentic over-the-top moments that our young, diverse female audience can tweet and gossip about.”
Seemingly promising drama-filled entertainment, showcasing the humor, heart and dysfunction of it all, the press release doesn’t make any race or culture-specific statements that tell us anything about the background of the man, or his many women and children. To be blunt, it doesn’t say whether All My Babies’ Mamas will star black people. But, of course, given the title, and the many jokes, as well as realities I think we’re all familiar with [they're probably Black].
Tambay of Shadow & Act writes:
So I did a little digging to either confirm or negate my assumptions, and, while I can’t say that I’m 100% certain that this will center on a black man and his families, I feel fairly confident that it will. Primarily because I found the below video on Vimeo, registered to a DiGa Vision as the account holder – DiGa Vision also being the name of the production company behind the above Oxygen upcoming special.
In short, ATL-based rapper Carlos “Shawty Lo” Walker is our “man,” with 10 “baby mamas,” and 11 kids… and, oh, by the way, a new girlfriend who is the same age as his oldest children.’
