QUEEN LATIFAH: I’M NO OPRAH

Queen Latifah, or Ms. Dana Owens, has a new attitude with a new wardrobe to match. The 41 year old singer and actress not only continues to celebrate her recent clothing line, she also discusses plans to launch her new talk show in the January 2012 issue of ESSENCE Magazine.

In the issue, Latifah openly speaks to the discrimination of manufacturers against curvaceous women and her decision to make a difference. “A lot of manufacturers don’t respect the curvaceous woman. They don’t respect our dollar or our shape.” Luckily the Home Shopping Network provided a positive partnership where Latifah could creatively express her ideas regarding the market for plus size women, not to mention the line is doing extremely well with the shopping channel.

BILLBOARD YEAR END CHARTS ARE IN!

It’s that time, already. The Billboard 2011 chart year has come to a close. The year began with the issue dated December 4, 2010 and ended this past week with the November 26th issue. I have added up the spins for the year’s worth of Mainstream Top 40 charts (a total of 183 songs have charted).

Remember, unlike Mediabase (which counts everything), Billboard’s year-end tabulation only counts spins for weeks that a song was on the chart and does not include recurrent play. Unless I’ve made an error, this should be a dead-on accurate match for the official year-end chart. We’ll find out when the top 50 becomes available on Billboard’s web site in the coming weeks. For now, here it is…

NICKI MINAJ WILL UNLEASH ALTER EGO ROMAN ZOLANSKI IN MUSIC FORM!

Roman is about to get his revenge. Nicki Minaj’s alter ego Roman Zolanski will return with new music in approximately two weeks.

In a cryptic message posted on her blog, Nicki thanked her Barbz and teased of what’s to come.

“roman will be in rare form this time. you know why? cuz he no longer gives a fuck,” wrote the Young Money rapper. “he has 2 more weeks in boarding school. we’re going to pick him up now. when he lands, he will address the nation in the form of music. he will also announce the date.”

Last nights BET Awards were … entertaining. There were a ton of new artist and veterans on deck all ready to show you why they are the chosen ones.

The nights performances started off with Mary J. Blige doing a medley of her old hits then bringing out Anita Baker to seal the deal. This jumped off a night of solid performance with few surprises along the way. Lil Wayne goes completely “Unplugged” for MTV2′s hit acoustic music performances. MTV2 has leaked a few videos of Lil Wayne performing “Unplugged,” but last night his entire episode premiered at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Lil Wayne came out to his “Tha Carter III” intro “3 Peat,” but before he got knee deep in his set, Weezy took the time to thank MTV for allowing him to go acoustic and completely “Unplugged.”
